When I was younger
When I was a little girl I was going to conquer the world! I had GRAND goals like, feeding the hungry (and I mean ALL of the worlds hungry), fighting big corporations that were polluting our land, and I was going to study animals and teach the world about them!
As I got a bit older, teens to twenty's, I still had BIG life goals. I was going to live in NYC and study art. I was still trying to figure out how to feed the world and eradicate hunger. This is also around the time that I realized there were abused animals in our world. I began to wonder how I could educate the world on how loving, intelligent, and important they are to our society.
In my late teens/early twenties, I fiercely debated anyone that had different beliefs than my own. I participated in protests and organized groups to "fight the good fight"! I rebelled against anything or anyone that I felt was in my way.
And I surely had the energy and stamina to do it all!
Fast forward several years; raising children, working full-time to pay my mortgage, being exposed to different classes of society, my views began to change. I realized that I wasn't ALWAYS right. Everyone is fighting a battle, whether it's on a grand scale or personal demons (or both), and it's more important to work together rather than force my opinion down their throat.
Today, I still have lofty life goals but they have evolved into more reachable and attainable efforts. They have become smaller in the great scheme of things. I'm still very passionate about all of the things, however, in order to begin to make a difference, I need to start with me.
By sharing experiences, seeking to understand, and learning to have empathy for my fellow man and animal, I CAN make a BIG difference.
Peace, kindness, and harmony is what I seek and it's all here, within my small circle. By living it day in and day out, rather than talking about it, I can have a real impact on my community and that can change the world!
P.S. Don't get me wrong, I screw up. I get angry and a bit too passionate about my beliefs and values sometimes. I am by no means a perfect person. I'm just saying that before I try and change the world, I should probably work on changing me.
