Moving from Kenmore to Wilson has given me a whole new appreciation for the quiet moments.

In Kenmore, I didn’t experience the same complete darkness or the same chorus of nighttime and early-morning sounds that I do living in Wilson. Between the light pollution and the more developed surroundings, it was easy to miss just how much life is moving around us when the world is still asleep.

Here, before the sun even rises, I sit on my back porch and just listen. It’s a symphony of critters, a deep and steady song of toads, tiny insects buzzing and chirping, and sounds coming from every direction. It’s surprisingly loud yet quiet, and completely harmonious.
Lately, there’s been a chill in the morning air, and I’ve noticed the faintest smell of fall in the breeze. That familiar crisp, earthy scent that tells you the seasons are beginning to change.

And then, somewhere in the distance, I hear him...

A rooster.

One lone, unmistakable call letting all of us know that the day is beginning.

I never realized how much I needed these sounds until I moved here. There’s something incredibly special about sitting in the darkness, surrounded by the sounds of life waking up, especially in my most favorite season, Autum.  ❤️
